Hedges Chapel Helping Hands Food Project

Prior to this summer, Hedges Chapel’s food program served 10 families by providing food on three holidays per year – Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Beginning in July of 2025, we have started to address the need for food every month, not just on these three holidays. We will also increase our efforts to teach and support the ability to save money by cooking family meals from scratch rather than purchasing fast food or more costly processed alternatives.

We are currently continnuing to serve 10 families (over 60 individuals), several of which have 10 – 12 people. Most are working but still having a tough time getting by food wise. All have been referred to us by Starting Points, a social service agency for Morgan County.

We are always in need of volunteers to help us provide help us out for an hour or two. You do not have to volunteer each month or be a member of Hedges Chaoel or the Outreach Committee. For more information, please contact Judy Snyder at 304-754-5806. (This landline does not accept texts.)

Cash (or check) donations are welcome so that we can buy what we need to meet the individuel food needs of each family each month. Please make your check payable to Hedges Chapel, with “outreach donation” written in the memo area.  Hedges Chapel is recognized as a non-profit organization for tax purposes (WV tax ID # -- 1041-3100).

If you would prefer to make a donation of non-persishable food, see the detailed list below. Quantities of 13 of the item enable us to serve each family.

Heading 1

Ideas of items the Helping Hands food project can use and what to avoid:

Please donate shelf-stable, non-perishable items such as canned meats and fish (tuna, salmon, chicken), dried or canned beans, peanut butter, rice, canned vegetables and fruit, and cereal. It's best to avoid items that require fresh ingredients, like mac and cheese, and anything that's close to its "sell-by" date. We also accept non-food items such as hygiene products, toilet paper and paper towels, toothbrushes and toothpaste, sturdy paper plates and cleaning supplies. Please see comments about foods to avoid at the end of this list.
